Spina Bifida: Case# 14171 Fetus demonstrates classic "Lemon Sign" shaped head which results from retraction of the cerebellum and cerebrum due to the protrusion of the meninges at L2-L4. Fetus has resultant hypertelorism due to this mechanism. Fetus is 17w6d at time of exam and necessitated gentle version of the fetus during sonography to facilitate endovaginal imaging. Mother is considering elective abortion.
